How to insert an image into a post or page
Posts and pages deal with images in the exact same way. Therefore, these instructions can be used whether you are inserting an image into a post or a page.
Step 1:
Browse to www.yourdomain.co.za/wp-login.php
Step 2:
Login with your username and password
Step 3:
If you want to insert an image into a post, click on posts from your dashboard menu. If you want to insert an image into a page, click on pages from your dashboard menu.
Step 4:
Click on the page/post you wish to work on, it will open in the editor
Step5:
Using the simple text editor click inside your content where you would like the image to appear e.g. at the beginning of the second paragraph and click on the Add an image button (the rectangle button next to Upload/Insert).
Step 6:
A new window will appear asking you to select images to upload. You can close this window with the small X in the top-right corner, or by clicking outside of the box. Generally you won’t upload images from a URL and will use the button Choose files to upload. Here you can upload one or many images.
Step 7:
Select where to find the image i.e. from your computer
Step 8:
Find the image and click “open”
Step 9:
When the image is finished uploading, you will see a new set of options and controls available – let’s go through them:
Title – this is the title of the image.
Alternative Text – a brief description of the image.
Caption – the caption text for the image.
Description – the description. Not used by all themes, but handy to complete.
Link URL – this is the address of the original image you’ve uploaded, by default, but it also allows you
to create a link to another website here – quickly and effectively. You can also press the three buttons
- None, meaning the image has no link, File URL, the default, and Post URL which will show your
image within the design of the site rather than as an image on its own.
Alignment – This allows you to set how the image is aligned. The small icons show the effect on the
text-wrapping.
Size – you’ll want to choose how big the image is. If it’s not too massive, you can use the Full Size image
- just make sure it fits into the space available. Otherwise, a Thumbnail, by default is a 150x150px
square, and Medium is cropped to fit in a 300x300px space.
Once you’ve selected your options, you press the Insert into Post button to add the image to where
your cursor was when you chose to Add Images.
In this example we’ve gone for a Medium image to the right, with out a caption.
Step 10:
Your image will now be inserted into your text as shown in the screenshot.
Step 11:
Once the image is placed inside your content, clicking on the image will give you two further options. You can either click on the red icon to delete the image from your content or on the properties icon which will open another dialog box.
Here you can adjust the image’s size and alignment to suit your content.
Step 12:
To view how your image looks, click on the Preview button. In our example, we have shown you the difference between the types of image placements you can have.
