What is an Email Alias?
An email alias is not a real email account (or mailbox). Instead, it’s an address that forwards all email it receives to a real email account.
For example: If you create an email alias called sales@your-domain.com and link it to you@your-domain.com, then all email sent to sales@your-domain.com will automatically be forwarded to you@your-domain.com (in this scenario, ‘sales’ is called an alias of ‘you’).
Email aliases can also forward to email accounts outside of your domain name.
For example: You can setup sales@your-domain.com as an alias for you@your-isp.co.za, then all email sent to sales@your-domain.com will automatically be forwarded to you@your-isp.com (in this scenario, ‘sales@your-domain.com’ is called an alias of ‘you@your-isp.com’)
Forwarding to multiple email accounts or even to another email alias is also possible. This way you can have a number of email addresses to fit your needs with only a handful of actual email accounts (mailboxes).
The number of aliases and mailboxes permitted, varies with each Web Hosting package.
